Solar Veils

Passive Cooling Building Screens

SolarVeils transforms building exteriors into passive cooling systems using lightweight, tensioned architectural fabric. By shading walls while creating a ventilated air channel behind the fabric, SolarVeils helps reduce solar heat gain before it enters the building—using no energy.

Image description

SolarVeils uses the natural movement of heated air to complement solar shading. A ventilated cavity between the textile membrane and the building allows air warmed by the sun-facing surface to rise and escape through the upper opening, drawing cooler air into the cavity from below. At the same time, the membrane intercepts direct solar radiation before it reaches the building envelope, reducing the heat the wall must absorb and release indoors.
